Five Minute Friday: A sleepy momma’s SURRENDER

Today, I’m writing with the Five Minute Friday community writing group, and this week’s word is Surrender.  If you’d like to join in, the linkup is here.

I am not a morning person.  Typically, I’m not fully awake until about 9am.  Thankfully, my nearly 2 year old loves sleep as much as I  do, so she graciously allows me time in the morning to awaken, spend time reading my Bible, scribble in my prayer journal, and have my coffee before she opens her eyes.  I have about 5 weeks left before Baby Girl #2 decides to make her entry into the world, and much of my alone time will then be filled in with feedings and diaper changes.  I have no idea what this new baby girl’s personality will be like.  I have no idea if she will be as laid back and easy as her older sister, although I sure am praying so.  Until we meet her, we can only speculate and daydream.  These next few weeks are going to be ones of anticipation, spending as much quality time with my oldest daughter and husband as possible, and letting go of my need for control (and sleep).

About miccahmarie

I got my first Diary when I was 10. I couldn't wait to write in it at night to divulge all of the details of my day onto paper with my turquoise pen. I now find that writing has become therapeutic for me. I need time to think and sort out what is going on inside and often when I'm most emotionally heightened is when I write most creatively. My years of journaling are a compilation of written out prayers as well as lamenting poems. Now as a wife and mother, my perspectives have changed, as I reflect on who I was and who God is making me to be.

  1. As a fellow mama of a tiny person (my son is 14 months), I SO relate to the daily battle to surrender my “right” to sleep! I didn’t realize I considered it my right until it was taken away regularly and I was grouchy and indignant. 🙂
You’re wise to begin processing with the Lord about it now! I hope the next 5 weeks are filled with sweet times of rest for you and your family, and that you are filled up daily with truth and encouragement.
    Visiting from FMF!

  2. I have been so wondering about you Micah! So glad you are embracing the time with your husband and oldest girl before baby arrives. May God bless the physical process of childbirth as well as your entire family as you welcome your 4th member! In Christ, Julie

Hi Julie! Thank you so much. I know I’ve been scarce the past few months. With all of the holidays and disruptions, it’s hard to get back into the routine (discipline) of writing. Thank you again for your prayers and support! Miccah
